The Times of Language
Santa Inés Ahuatempan
"The Times of Language" is a multi-media artistic project whose purpose is the research, protection and artistic experimentation of the Ngiba language, this project is developed in a specific site in the community of Santa Inés Ahuatempan (Puebla, Mexico).
Language times are divided into three dimensions:
(1) Exploratory linguistic research;
2) Registration and custody (cabin and mobile laboratory)
3) artistic experimentation.
Each dimension has two or three "moments" of work.
The first dimension, "exploratory language research", has a pragmatic character and reveals concrete elements, objects and materials: this research is being carried out with the full support of the Ngiba community of Santa Inés Ahuatempan; This community includes Ngiba speakers whom we will call "language carriers", bilingual teachers and the general public interested in knowing, learning or rescuing the Ngiba language. The aim of the research is to achieve a deeper approach to the logic and structure of language.
The second dimension of this project aims to realize a PLACE OF LANGUAGE, AND A PLACE FOR LANGUAGE, this, by making a voice recording booth and safeguarding of language, which will later serve as a laboratory of artistic experimentation for the Ngiba language.
“Tin-khi "Mobile Cabin", is a trailer that will tour the neighborhoods of Santa Inés Ahuatempan, in addition to several surrounding villages, making a recording of the voice of the elderly N`giba-speakers. This "mobile caravan" has a recording booth that allows a sound waterproofing with respect to the environment, in addition to having the necessary equipment for the post-production of audio, as well as for its dispersion in FM radio signals.
