In "a project for a national development plan", the boundary between art and crafts allows the works of Ulises Matamoros to move between the concepts of use value, sign value, exchange value and artistic value; the artist extracts objects to be intervened, resignified and recontextualized, making a return with them when returning to their conditions of habitual use thus offering a very complex reading about the network of relationships that are played in that transit from their community Ngiba to spaces of artistic validation
We can see an insertion of symbolic elements opposed to the supports used, as in the intervention made to the "Reboso " of Natalia Colmena, where Ulises Matamoros Ascención recovers a used rebozo of his community, which embroiders with gold thread; inserts it into the museum environment and finally returns it to its place and origin owners to be photographed in their usual conditions of use.
"I modify the status of the basic utilitarian object (indigenous), through a distinctive consumer product, to present it later recoded in the art space. Under shameless irony I use symbolic or real elements; crossing the sumptuous aspects of capitalism with the widespread poverty of the people. With an aesthetic irony I transform these functional shoes and garments into a symbol of what they are not".
