Site-specific Intervention
Puebla, México
Work presented and made for the exhibition INVADED DEPARTMENT, organized by NOAUTOMATICO. The exhibition consented to a series of "on-site" interventions that a group of artists would make over three weeks.
For this work Ulises Matamoros toured the city collecting "paint crusts", on the facades of houses in a state of deterioration. From these "crusts", the artist extracted (by means of chemical solvents) the pigment from which they are composed. With this pigment, Ulises Matamoros made a painting, inside the department: it is a decorative element typical of the colonial facades of the city of Puebla.
The work is a pictorial commentary that deals with the deterioration of the public and the private through the dislocation of an ornamental architectural element.
